From the Gulf to the Hills

Pasco runs roughly forty miles west to east, and the pest pressure changes with the ground under it.

The coast. That district operates out of Odessa, the same town our office calls home. District work manages populations across thousands of acres of marsh. It was never designed to clear the shaded corners of a single backyard, and that yard level layer is ours: we find the standing water, treat the foliage where mosquitoes rest through the heat of the day, and keep the barrier refreshed through the long breeding season. Coastal housing also carries its own rodent logic, because older block homes near the water offer gaps that newer construction is built without.

The center. The corridor along SR 54 and SR 56, from Odessa and Trinity through Land O’ Lakes to Wesley Chapel, is growing faster than almost anywhere else in Tampa Bay. Growth is good news for everyone except the person who just moved into it. Land clearing pushes rats and mice toward the nearest finished homes. Fresh sod and new irrigation make fire ant mounds appear in lawns that are weeks old. Around the lakes that gave Land O’ Lakes its name, standing water keeps mosquito season running at full strength. This corridor is our backyard, and we work it constantly.

The east. Zephyrhills, Dade City, and San Antonio sit in older, higher country, with rolling ground, small town blocks, and rural edges. Housing there skews older than the corridor’s, which trades new construction pests for the established kind: wasp nests under generous eaves, rodents in long settled attics, and ants that have had decades to network a neighborhood.

The Pasco Calendar

The wet season sets the county’s pest schedule. From June into September, afternoon storms refill every ditch, retention pond, and forgotten bucket, and the coastal marshes hatch mosquito broods in waves after high tides. This is when barrier treatments earn their keep and when skipping a month shows. The first cool nights of fall flip the pressure indoors: rats and mice that spent the summer outside start probing soffits and garage corners, which makes fall the season for exclusion work. Winter is the season smart homeowners use for sealing work, because you close entry points while activity is low instead of chasing it once it is high.
