Nobody buys a screened enclosure to solve a spider problem, and yet the cage is where Trinity households notice spiders first. The main Trinity page says the community may lead our whole service area in screened lanais per square mile, which makes this the one structure worth building a page around here. A cage is sold as one thing, a barrier, and it does that job. It is also a second thing nobody sells it as, which is an aluminum lattice of corners, beams, and tracks, and web builders read it as the best construction site on the property. The Cage Really Does Keep Things Out

Start with the side that works, since a page that talks a household out of maintaining its screen has done damage.

Screen excludes. A cage with tight splines, intact mesh, and a door sweep that meets the track keeps mosquitoes off a slab that would otherwise be unusable at dusk, and in a community wrapped around ponds and retention lakes that is not a small thing. The Trinity page states the failure condition precisely: a lanai keeps out only as many pests as its worst spline allows, and a quarter inch gap where screen meets frame admits every mosquito the pond hatches. An enclosure roughly the size of a patio can carry more usable attachment points than the entire back of the house it is bolted to, because everything about aluminum framing is angles meeting angles by design.

The Better It Catches, the More There Is to Eat

Here is the part that makes these two identities more than a coincidence, and it is the reason the cage is not simply a neutral place where webs happen.

A barrier that works stops things. Flying insects moving toward a lit slab at dusk meet the mesh and stop there. Some settle on the outside face, some crawl along the frame, some drop into the base track. The screen did its job perfectly, and the result of it doing that job is a concentration of small insects arriving at a structure that is covered in anchor points. A web builder positioned on the outside of a cage is sitting at the intersection of a food supply and a scaffold, and the barrier put both of them in the same place.

That inverts what most households expect. The instinct is that better screen means fewer spiders, since better screen means fewer bugs. On the interior of the enclosure that holds. Two Jobs on One Piece of Aluminum

A torn panel gets rescreened, a dried out spline gets replaced, a door sweep that no longer meets the track gets swapped, and the seam where the frame sits on the slab gets closed. Do those and they stay done for years. This is the punch list the Trinity page already points households toward, and it is the correct list.

Structure work recurs and has no end state. An anchor point cannot be repaired out of existence, because it is not damage. It is the frame doing what a frame does, and it will be there for as long as the enclosure stands. So webbing gets cleared, egg sacs get taken off the frame before they open, and the insect supply feeding those positions gets suppressed, and then the same list comes around again next quarter with the geometry unchanged.

The failure mode is doing the first list and expecting the second to follow. Money was spent on the barrier and the scaffold was never addressed, and the two share an object without sharing a solution.

Where the Silk Actually Goes on a Birdcage

This is the concrete part, and it is worth walking with a flashlight before anybody arrives, because the productive spots on a cage are predictable enough to list.

The corners where screen meets aluminum. The single most reliable location. Every panel has four, the upper ones catch the least traffic from people, and the angle between mesh and frame is already most of a web anchor. Upper corners on the elevation facing a pond or a light fill first.

The beam run overhead. Look up. A member carrying roof panels gives a downward facing surface with a post at either end, roofed against weather, and nothing on a cage sits further from where a broom normally goes. That is why the heaviest accumulation is usually the part nobody has inspected.

The base track. The channel along the slab collects leaf litter, clipping debris, and whatever hit the screen and dropped. Low, shaded, rarely disturbed, and it feeds different builders than the corners overhead do.

The house joint. Where aluminum lands against stucco a vertical seam runs the full height of the structure, sheltered on both faces. Everything working along the frame eventually crosses it, which makes it the busiest few inches on the cage without looking like anything.

The door bay. The one section people pass through daily, which keeps the sides clear and pushes the work up to the header and out to the corners beside the swing.

That turns a vague chore into five stops with addresses. Start on the face aimed at water or at a fixture, since the side of the barrier catching the most is by definition the side of the scaffold feeding the most.

Stillness at the Base of a Structure People Walk Through

One species sits outside all of the above, and on a cage it sorts by which parts of the structure nobody touches.

The black widow is the one Florida spider carrying medical weight. Widows live here as an established population. Recluses do not, reputation aside, and the confirmed Florida records are isolated introductions. Everything strung across the corners above your chair is harmless, so the caution attaches to a different part of the same structure. An enclosure manufactures stillness inside a space people use daily, because foot traffic runs down the middle of the slab and around the furniture while the rest of that concrete sits permanently outside the pattern. The track behind a planter nobody has slid since spring. The floor under a stack of chairs put away for the season. The gap between a bin and a post.

Widow work reads as a low structureless tangle near the concrete rather than tidy geometry overhead, so nobody has to identify a spider to sort it. Move the planters, break up whatever stack has been sitting longest, and glove up before reaching blind into the base of the frame.

A Visit That Reads the Frame Before the Yard

On a property with an enclosure the exterior route starts on the aluminum rather than at the front door. The five positions above get walked in order, with the face aimed at a pond or a fixture taking the heavier share of the time. Mesh, spline, and door sweep get read on the same circuit and anything worth repairing gets named out loud. Only then does the route move off the cage to the roof edge, the entry recess, and the mulch strip against the foundation, since whatever feeds the base track came up out of damp ground rather than in through the air. Stillness gets its own separate look.

Treatment then aims at what the frame is holding rather than at the frame itself. Existing silk and sacs come off the enclosure, the entry, and the eaves, retreat spots get treated, and the prey arriving at the mesh gets worked in the same visit. You end up holding one list divided the way this page divides the cage. The repairs: the hardened spline, the sweep no longer touching the track, the torn panel. The recurring items: the beam run carrying the most silk, the planter that has not moved, the length of track packed with litter.

Spider Control Questions in Trinity

We had the screens redone last year and there are still webs all over the cage. Did the screen company do a bad job?

Probably not. New mesh and fresh spline make the barrier tighter, which is what you paid for, and the barrier is only one of the two things a cage is. The second is the aluminum itself, and no rescreening job alters a single post, beam, corner, or track. Anything webbing the outside of the enclosure never had to get through mesh at any point. It is working the metal. The screen job did what it was supposed to do, against a completely separate condition from the one bothering you.

Should we bother patching a small tear if the spiders are outside anyway?
